Diggers dig Turkish Print E-mail
Aussie Diggers will be dining on Turkish food tonight as war veterans join Paddington’s Harem Turkish Restaurant owner Michael Icer in remembering the ANZAC’s landing at Gallipoli. The war heroes and their families will be special guests of Turkish-born Mr Icer’s who invited the returned servicemen and women as part of the ANZAC Day celebrations.

He said he looked forward to breaking bread with the Diggers adding that the rest of the world can learn a lot from the relationship between Australia and Turkey.

“It’s not often that two countries who opposed each other during wartime heal the emotional battle wounds to the extent that Australia and Turkey have,” he said.

“Both countries now share a very special bond and this event also celebrates this relationship and the sacrifice made by the fallen to ensure future generations, including ourselves, share the true value of mateship and peace.”

The evening will include guest speakers from the ANZAC and Australian Turkish communities. There will be a Gallipoli power point presentation, traditional live Turkish music, and an authentic 3 course banquet of Turkish cuisine.
